CASE STUDY: ONLINE THICKNESS CONTROL OF ELASTOMER STRIPS WITH METRIX FILM

During large scale production of O-rings, it is critical to control the thickness of the elastomer strip from which they are cut. This ensures full compliance with customer specifications and thus :

METRIX FILM is a solution for thickness control. It’s adapted to the control of elastomer strips and is equipped with :

• 8 contactless transducers measuring thickness with :
  – a +/- 3 µm uncertainty and a variation range of 100 µm
  – a gage R&R better than 10%
  – a suitable rate to measure the strip at 2mm intervals
•  A tensors and rollers system for scrolling the rubber strip

The solution can map and record the thickness profiles. It can act on the extrusion unit to maintain the product’s thickness within tolerances.
